With the coronavirus pandemic still seeing countries around the globe on lock-down, one top government official says he doesn’t plan on seeing the international travel market open up anytime soon.

According to USA Today, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin advised Americans to focus on domestic travel this year given the uncertainty affecting international tourism due to COVID-19.

“We want people to travel safely, to be able to visit places safely,” Mnuchin said. “So as the economy opens up, I think you’ll see demand coming back. Our priority is opening the domestic economy.”

Mnuchin said there may be some room for international travel, such as business people that need to travel overseas.

U.S. Citizens are still under an “avoid all international travel” advisory from the U.S. State Department, which has been in place since late March.

Asked by Fox Business News’ Maria Bartiromo whether he expects international travel to open up this year, Mnuchin responded, “Too hard to tell at this point.”
