The Bahamas is the latest nation to close its borders to American tourists as the US tackles increasing Covid numbers.

According to Fox Business, beginning Wednesday Americans will no longer be able to travel to the Bahamas, with the country’s airline, Bahamasair, halting all outgoing flights to the US.
“Regrettably, the situation here at home has already deteriorated since we began the reopening of our domestic economy,” Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said. “It has deteriorated at an exponential rate since we reopened our international borders.”

All international commercial flights to the Bahamas will be banned from entering the island nation starting this Wednesday, however tourists from the United Kingdom, Canada and the European Union will still be able to visit.

“Our current situation demands decisive action if we are to avoid being overrun and being defeated by this virus,” Minnis said in a nationally televised address.

According to CNN, sea vessels carrying commercial passengers will also not be permitted to enter. However, private international flights, charters and yachts from all countries will be allowed. All travelers headed to the Bahamas must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test from 10 days or less before their trip, or they will be mandated to quarantine for 14 days, Fox Business reports.
