Check out the dos and don’ts when it comes to taking a cruise.

Pick the Right Cruise

With dozens of options for cruise lines, make sure you do your research on what each one has to offer. Pick one that best suits your personality.

Read Reviews

A great way to get an idea for what you can expect on your cruise is to read reviews by previous passengers.

Cabin Selection

Do your research when it comes choosing a cabin. Pick one that best suits you and your needs.

Choose Your Travel Companions Wisely

Don’t ruin your first cruise experience by choosing the wrong travel buddies. Make sure you travel with those that are ready for new experiences and very social. Cruises offer a lot of group activities that can include silly traditions. So make sure you don’t take yourself too seriously during this getaway.

Be Methodical When It Comes to Packing

Think about what you will be doing on your cruise. Do you plan on doing any excursions? If so, make sure to pack something that you carry easily and securely that will hold your belongings such as a fanny pack or backpack. If you plan on hitting the buffet hard, pack a few stretchy pants. Packing on a few extra pounds isn’t uncommon.

Check Cell Phone Rates Before Boarding

If you plan on using your cell phone while at sea, it can cost you. Check rates with your provider before boarding and turn off your data roaming to avoid getting stuck with a stiff bill when you return.

Be On Time

Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to port. A rule of thumb if you have to fly into your port’s location, book your ticket to arrive a day early just in case of delays. Also, if you do an excursion or get off the boat when docked, make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to return, because they will not wait for you! Cruise lines have firm departure times.

Bring Essential Items in Your Carry On

If you plan on checking your bag at port when you check in, your bags will be delivered to your room, but you won’t have access to your rooms right away. Make sure to bring essential items with you when you board.

Remember to Pack Anti-Nausea Meds

If you are one of those people that say, “I never get sea sick,” make sure to pack some anti-nausea pills such as dramamine just in case. Sometimes the ship can encounter rough seas. You’ll be glad you packed your meds if this happens.
