The breathtaking islands of the Maldives, located in the Indian Ocean, was named the Indian Ocean’s leading destination at the World Travel Awards.

The World Travel Awards, which is known as the oscars of the travel industry, applauded the Maldives by honoring the islands with leading beach destination, leading dive destination and most romantic resort destination, among other accolades.
The Maldives are a group of islands, comprised of 26 atolls located in the Indian Ocean southwest of India and Sri Lanka. It is home to some of the most exotic – and luxurious – resorts in the world. It has been favored by celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Madonna, Michael Phelps and Royal couple William and Kate.
However, if a trip to the Maldives is on your bucket list, it may be worthwhile planning a trip before global warming causes the tropical island chain to vanish completely. The government of the Maldives has long been ringing the alarm bell of global warming, citing fears that rising sea levels could swallow up some of the lower-lying islands.
