As the coronavirus pandemic continues worldwide, Canada has once again extended its ban on cruises until March 1, 2022.

Canada’s cruise ship ban was initially meant to be lifted on March 1 of this year, however, calling it the “right and responsible thing to do” that ban has been extended for another year.
“Today, I announced a 1-year ban on pleasure craft in Canadian Arctic waters and cruise vessels in all Canadian waters, these prohibitions will protect the most vulnerable among our communities and avoid overwhelming our health care system,” Canada’s Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra announced on Twitter.

“As Canadians continue to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, our government continues to work hard to ensure Canada’s transportation system remains safe. This is the right and responsible thing to do,” Alghabra said.

The ban pertains to vessels carrying more than 100 people. In addition, passenger vessels carrying more than 12 people are banned from entering Arctic coastal waters, including the Labrador Coast,USA Travel reports.

To limit the spread of COVID-19, the Canadian government continues to advise its citizens and permanent residents to avoid all travel on cruise ships outside of Canada until further notice.
