CDC COVID Guidance for Cruise Ships to Become Voluntary

As of Saturday, cruise ships will no longer have to follow the CDC’s COVID guidance if they don’t want to.

According to USA Today, the CDC’s Framework for Conditional Sailing Order is set to expire this weekend allowing cruise ships to make the decision as to whether they want to continue following it, or not.

The CDC will move to a “voluntary COVID-19 risk mitigation program, which will offer guidance and recommendations to cruise ships on how to continue operating amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to USA Today, cruise ships that choose not to follow the CDC’s voluntary program and operate in US and international waters will be classified as “gray” on the agency’s Cruise Ship Color Status. Cruise ships that opt-out but only sail in U.S. waters won’t be listed on the CDC’s Cruise Ship Color Status.
