CDC Lowers Warning Level for Cruise Ships

In another bonus for the cruise industry, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has lowered its COVID risk warning level for cruise ships down to Level 2.

The CDC ranks destinations on four COVID tiers, with Level 4 being “very high” risk for COVID exposure and Level 1 being “low.”

Cruise ships were designated at a Level 4 “very high” risk up until February when the CDC lowered cruise travel to a Level 3.

Although cruise ships are now designated at a Level 2 “moderate” risk for COVID-19, the CDC still recommends all cruise passengers get fully vaccinated and wear masks indoors and when outside in heavily populated areas.

“If you are not up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, avoid cruise ship travel,” the CDC announced. “The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily between people in close quarters on board ships, and the chance of getting COVID-19 on cruise ships is moderate, even if you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines.”
