First, United decided to bid adieu to the beloved Boeing 747 and now Delta is following suit announcing a ‘farewell tour’ for the iconic jumbo jet.
Delta announced the final Delta customer flight for the airliner will happen on December 17 when the plane returns from Seoul Incheon to Detroit, Michigan.

But before officially retiring, the 747 will be taken on an ‘employee farewell tour’ that will touch down in each of Delta’s four carrier hubs. It will then “fly a handful of sports teams and ad hoc charter flights before making its final sad home in an airline boneyard in Arizona.”
Customers can bid for a spot on the farewell flights using their skymiles. Delta employees and retired employees can purchase a ticket on a first-come first-serve basis, starting November 20.
