Disney Rolls Out More “Inclusive” Employee Dress Code

Disney Park employees will now be able to showcase their tattoos and style themselves in gender-inclusive costumes thanks to an update to the company’s dress code.

According to CNBC, cast members will no longer have to follow segmented rules for female and male workers as a wider effort on behalf of Disney to make its employees and guests feel even more welcome at its theme parks.
In addition to changes to the employee dress code, Disney will also provide more products like costumes for people in wheelchairs, LGBTQ Mickey Ears, and showcase more diversity at attractions in the parks, CNBC reports.

“Moving forward, we believe our cast, who are at the center of the magic that lives in all our experiences, can provide the best of Disney’s legendary guest service when they have more options for personal expression – creating richer, more personal and more engaging experiences with our guests,” Disney Parks Chairman, Josh D’Amaro wrote in a blog post reported by CNBC.

“We want our guests to see their own backgrounds and traditions reflected in the stories, experiences and products they encounter in their interactions with Disney,” D’Amaro shared. “And we want our cast members – and future cast members – to feel a sense of belonging at work.”

According to numerous media outlets, the revised employee dress code no longer specifies the length of men’s hair and drops the ban on men wearing nail polish. Cast members with tattoos can now show off their ink, providing the tattoos are not on the face, head, or neck and no larger than a hand.

“This is just the beginning as we continue to work toward a world where we all belong – including a more diverse and inclusive Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. There’s more to do, but we’re committed to listening, learning and making meaningful improvements,” D’Amaro shared in a blog post.
