FAA Bans Certain MacBook Pro Laptops From Flights

The Federal Aviation Administration has banned MacBook Pro Laptops with recalled batteries from all U.S. flights.

According to Condê Nast Traveler, in June Apple recalled “a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units” that were mainly sold between September 2015 and February 2017 due to batteries that could “overheat and pose a safety fire risk.”

The recall affects approximately 432,000 MacBook Pros.

The FAA has banned recalled MacBook Pros from domestic flights, which is standard practice for products with recalled lithium batteries.

According to Life Hack, if you want to find out whether your MacBook Pro is part of the voluntary recall “click the Apple icon in the upper left of your screen, followed by the “About This Mac” from the dropdown. As Fast Company writes, affected laptops will have “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)” or something similar in its description.”

If you have had your recalled battery replaced by Apple, experts recommend you bring with you all applicable paperwork when traveling with your MacBook Pro.
