French Polynesia Closes its Borders to Tourists Once Again

After reopening to American tourists back in 2020, French Polynesia is closing its borders once again due to the new coronavirus variants.

According to Travel+Leisure, the island nation, which is made up of over 118 breathtaking islands, will close its borders to travelers from all countries on February 3 and has established a nightly curfew of through at least February 15.
“Faced with the resurgence of COVID-19 cases around the world and in order to preserve French Polynesia which has for its part, shown significant improvement for several consecutive weeks, the authorities have decided to temporarily suspend travel to The Islands of Tahiti including for tourists from all origins until further notice,” Travel+Leisure report Tahiti Tourisme as saying in an official statement.

The islands of French Polynesia, which include the celebrity favorites of Tahiti and Bora Bora, first reopened to tourists in July 2020 and required visitors show proof of a negative COVID test, together with travel insurance.

Travel+Leisure reports the islands will still allow essential visits for work, health, or family purposes, but those who come will have to show proof of a negative COVID test within 72 hours of their departure and complete a self-test four days after arriving in French Polynesia.
