For the first time since 2019, Germany’s iconic Oktoberfest will return to Munich this fall.

After a two-year hiatus, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the mayor of Munich announced that the Bavarian capital will host Oktoberfest again with no COVID restrictions.
According to USA Today, Oktoberfest was first held in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Maria Therese. Over the years, it has been canceled numerous times due to wars – and pandemics.

Oktoberfest 2022 will begin on Saturday, September 17, with a traditional Oktoberfest opening ceremony complete with horse-drawn beer carriages and a parade led through town by the Münchner Kindl-Munich’s monk mascot.

The festivities end on Monday, October 3, with the Boellerschiessen – a traditional gun salute.
