The Maui Pro surf contest is on hold after a shark attacked a surfer near Honolulu Bay in Hawaii.

According to NBC News, an unidentified 56-year-old male was attacked off the coast of Maui prompting officials to postpone the World Surf League’s Maui Pro.
“There will be no competition at the Maui Pro today following a shark incident,” The World Surf League shared via Twitter. “The WSL is working with authorities and our thoughts are with the victim of this incident. The Maui Pro is on hold until further notice.”
Officials say the surfer, who wasn’t a participant in the contest, was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. According to TMZ, the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources released pictures of the surfer’s board showing a huge Jaws-like 17-inch bite mark.

The victim is reportedly in stable condition.
