Maori Tribe Angered Over Playboy Model’s Nude Picture

Playboy model Jaylene Cook has angered a local Maori tribe in New Zealand.

The 25-year-old decided to celebrate her ascent of Mount Taranaki by having her boyfriend snap a few naked shots of her on the 8,261 ft. summit.
Jaylene posted one of the pics to Instagram, writing, “WE DID IT! This was BY FAR the hardest thing I have ever done! Both mentally and physically…This climb has forever changed me.”

However a local Maori tribe is less than pleased with Cook’s naked picture atop Mount Taranaki – a mountain they consider sacred as the burial ground of their ancestors. In fact climbing the peak is normally only reserved for ceremonial purposes.

A spokesman for the Maori tribe told the BBC, “It’s like someone went into St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and took a nude photo. It’s a sacred place and something like this is just very inappropriate.”

“We simply ask people to be respectful. This latest case is just another really annoying example where someone didn’t know how to behave here.”

For her part Cook is defending the photo, telling Taranaki Daily News, “We made ourselves knowledgeable on the history of the mountain. We were quite respectful. Being nude is not something that is offensive in any way. It’s natural and pure and it’s about freedom and empowerment.”
