Royal Caribbean is hoping to resume sailings with short cruises to its private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, and it may need volunteers as it works to comply with the CDC’s new requirements.

According to Cruise Critic, the Centers for Disease Control have lifted the no-sail order and will instead require cruise lines to conduct simulated voyages and fulfill other requirements in order to return to service.
“We will be bringing back short cruises calling at Perfect Day at CocoCay,” Freed told Royal Caribbean’s travel agent partners in a statement reported by Cruise Critic. “We’re going to be doing a series of sailings using our employees and other volunteers.”

“We haven’t decided how we’re going to select people at this point. We will be looking possibly for volunteers. We do not have all of the details yet fleshed out,” Freed revealed.

“While we are eager to welcome our guests back on board, we have a lot to do between now and then, and we’re committed to taking the time to do things right,” a cruise line spokesperson told Travel+Leisure. “This includes training our crew in new health and safety protocols and conducting a number of trial sailings to stress-test those protocols in real-world conditions.”

According to Freed, Royal Caribbean will resume its sailings in 2021, beginning with short cruises to Perfect Day at CocoCay.

“It is going to require a lot of work to restart operations,” Freed said. “It is complicated to go through this entire CDC recommendation, but we are going to do it.”
