Senate Passes Bill to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

Turning the clocks back once a year could soon be a thing of the past!

This week the Senate passed a measure that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
The Sunshine Protection Act now needs to head to the House of Representatives and be signed by President Biden to become law. If all goes according to plan, the Sunshine Protection Act will be implemented in November 2023.

According to Reuters, supporters say the bill will enable children to play outdoors later and ease seasonal depression. However, opponents are concerned about children walking to school and bus stops in the dark.

Reuters reported Daylight Saving Time has been in place in nearly all of the United States since 1960 after first being tried in 1918. Arizona and Hawaii do not observe Daylight Saving Time.
