A trip to the beach should be a joyous time where you enjoy the sun, sand, and surf – but for one Florida destination, their beach has been named the deadliest in America.

According to USA TODAY, New Smyrna Beach, located on Florida’s Atlantic coast, was named the deadliest beach in the USA by Travel Lens, an online travel publication.
Travel Lens analyzed surf fatalities, shark attacks, and hurricane frequency to compile its list of deadly beaches, with New Smyrna Beach topping the list because it has twice as many shark attacks as any other US beach

And although Florida is a mecca for tourists, seven of its beaches made the top ten list partly due to the number of hurricanes that affect the state – and of course, those pesky sharks.

According to Travel Lens, these are the Ten Deadliest Beaches in America:

1. New Smyrna Beach, Florida
2. Cocoa Beach, Florida
3. Ormond Beach, Florida
4. Panama City Beach, Florida
5. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
6. Melbourne Beach, Florida
7. Jacksonville Beach, Florida
8. Oak Island, North Carolina
9. Gulf Shores, Alabama
10. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
