The U.K. announced its plans to ease quarantine restrictions for visitors coming from the United States – as long as they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the Associated Press, Britain’s Department for Transport said it expects to implement the new policy in phases later this summer, adding the changes would apply to fully vaccinated people traveling to destinations on the government’s “amber” list, which currently includes the United States.

“We’re moving forward with efforts to safely reopen international travel this summer, and thanks to the success of our vaccination program, we’re now able to consider removing the quarantine period for fully vaccinated UK arrivals from amber countries – showing a real sign of progress,” Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said in a statement reported by the Associated Press.

Currently, travelers from the United States are required to get tested before arrival and quarantine for 10 days once they reach the U.K. In addition, they must get tested on day two and day eight of their quarantine and cover the cost of the tests themselves.

The news comes after airlines and travel companies have repeatedly urged for the reopening of the travel corridor between Great Britain and America.
