Starting Monday, the United Kingdom will introduce a mandatory 14-day self quarantine for Brits returning from overseas trips and international tourists flying into the country for a vacation.

According to The Guardian, all international arrivals into the UK and returning British residents will be “required to fill in a contact locator form with contact and travel information so they can be reached if they, or someone they may have been in contact with, develops coronavirus” and self-isolate for two weeks. Anyone found breaking their quarantine will face a fine of £1,000 and could possibly face potential prosecution.

Those self quarantining will be permitted to shop for food and medical essentials, only if there is no one else who can perform those tasks for them.

The measure has a few exemptions. People traveling from the Republic of Ireland will be exempt, together with truck drivers and COVID-19 healthcare workers among others.
