For months Hawaii’s tourism industry has taken a massive hit with the island state requesting all visitors undergo a mandatory two-week quarantine upon arrival. With news Hawaii will begin implementing COVID testing as a way to bypass the mandatory quarantine period, United Airlines is looking to make travel to Hawaii that much easier.

United will become the first US airline to offer COVID-19 testing and it will coincide with Hawaii’s new pre-testing program set to launch on October 15.
Beginning on October 15, passengers flying on United from San Francisco to Hawaii will have the opportunity to either take a rapid COVID-19 test at the airport or request an at-home mail-in test before their trip with their sample submitted within 72 hours of their trip.

The at-home mail-in option will cost $80 as opposed to the rapid, airport test which will cost $250 and provide the results in 15 minutes.

“We really see this as a great opportunity to provide access to testing for our customers, to get them back in the air, and traveling as safely as possible,” said Aaron McMillan, of United Airlines’ operations policy and support division.
