Visiting Hawaii’s Diamond Head? You’ll Need a Reservation

Out-of-State visitors to Hawaii will soon need a reservation if they want to visit one of Hawaii’s most iconic landmarks.

Hawaii land officials reveal a new policy beginning on May 12 that will require out-of-state visitors to make a reservation to visit Diamond Head State Park on the island of Oahu.
“We want to reduce the impact of visitors and really ensure that our residents have access to these desirable places,” Hawaii Gov. David Ige said in a statement reported by USA Today. “We can control the numbers of people who visit a particular place so they can more easily be spread out across the day.”

According to USA Today, bookings will open on April 28 and be available 14 days before visits. Hawaii residents will not need a reservation to visit the ancient volcanic crater.
