Best Cosplay From Comic-Con

Published

on

We love to watch comic book movies to escape from the world and see our favorite heroes defeat the bad guys. We get to imagine what it would be like if we had special powers too. Unfortunately, no matter how much we get bitten by radioactive spiders, those powers just aren’t coming. Instead, we have found a different way to feel like superheroes, and that is dressing up just like them.

Not everyone wants to go as a hero though as the villains are the ones who get to have all the fun, and bad guys are totally accepted at conventions too. Look out for your favorite comic book character amongst these amazing costumes that prove the people who made them really do have special powers.

Inspector Gadget

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
So much effort must have gone into making this. Not only have they come as Inspector Gadget, but he’s doing everything the detective would, mostly malfunctioning and springing arms out of everywhere. No matter how Inspector Gadget did it, the best thing about him was that he always caught the bad guy.

Pennywise

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Some people will happily fumble around in pitch black darkness just to avoid even hearing a mention of the word ‘clown.’ Many have Stephen King to thank for their irrational fear of clowns after the sewer-dwelling Pennywise was discovered in the horror movie It.

Harley Quinn

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Margot Robbie changed how we view Harley Quinn forever, but this is often what she looked like before the hot pants. Originally Quinn looked much more like a jester, and this costume is so good it actually makes the person look like a cartoon.

Elsa

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Not only does this cosplayer look an awful lot like Frozen’s Elsa, but she seems to have some of her icy magic powers too. She appears to be making ice from her bare hands, and when designing the costume this woman even placed snowflakes in her hair.

Mystique

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Mystique is a shapeshifter who can change her body to look like anybody, making it hard to pick a look for her. This cosplayer has not only come as Mystique in her real form but also in transition.

Scooby Doo And The Gang

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
We hope these guys arrived at their convention in their own version of The Mystery Machine. They’ve actually come to solve a mystery, and it looks as though they’ve figured out who the monster was all along. They would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling kids.

Lego Batman

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Why go to a comic book convention as regular old Batman, when you can go as the Lego version of the vigilante hero? This cosplayer brought the lighter side of Batman with them, instead of the brooding playboy version we are so used to seeing.

Elastigirl

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Elastigirl is the superhero mom in Pixar’s The Incredibles. We’re used to seeing her in her famous red costume, or else just hanging out as mom, but this outfit is from her younger days of fighting bad people.

Wonder Woman

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
For some comic book fans there can be only one Wonder Woman and that is Lynda Carter from the 1970s. Thankfully she has been resurrected for a younger audience by Gal Gadot. The new Wonder Woman is edgier and grittier than the last, and this fan has done a great job at keeping that vibe.

Iron Man

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
The person who designed and made this costume must have thought “everything looks better with lights.” Well, they weren’t wrong, and this is one of the most convincing Iron Man costumes ever made.

The Mummy

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
The monster from 2017’s The Mummy was Ahmanet who had a terrifying look and was a memorable villain. This cosplayer has managed to capture one of the creepiest things about the monster in The Mummy which was her double eyes. No doubt people were double-taking her all day with those eyes.

The Knight King

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Winter is coming, well actually it’s already been but still watch your step. Not content with messing up Westeros, the Night King has come to our world to continue on his destructive path. That looks like the same icy spear he used to slay and convert a dragon to his side, so watch out!

Homer Simpson

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Homer Simpson is one of the most recognizable characters from any TV show, so if you’re going to cosplay as him it needs to be good. This guy has pulled it off, and he’s even brought along Homer’s favorite snack, a donut.

Jon Snow and Thanos

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
We never thought the Marvel and Game of Thrones universes would unite, but maybe Thanos is the guy needed in Westeros to take care of the White Walkers. Although, he might align more with the frozen zombie ideology than Jon Snow, so Westeros is still probably doomed.

Batman

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
If anyone was in doubt about who is better, this kid has settled the argument. He is in his dragging Superman around like some kind of rag doll. It might be because this Superman is a rag doll, but we think the point still stands, Batman is better.

Leela

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
This cosplayer could have chosen any character, but they went with a cartoon cyclops from Futurama. It can’t have been easy changing her face to make her look like Leela the one-eyed alien, but she has managed it.

Ace Ventura

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Jim Carrey was definitely the guy in the ‘90s for zany comedy, and one of his most iconic roles was Ace Ventura. It was basically Jim Carrey given license to goof off while pretending to be a detective. Getting the hair right was the most important part, and this guy’s is immaculate.

Imperator Furiosa

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
When Mad Max: Fury Road came to our screens in 2015 fans of the franchise might have been worried it wouldn’t live up to their hopes. Then the action started, and people were astonished at how mesmerizing the entire movie was. Furiosa had to fight alongside Max through the desolate wasteland and is a seriously tough hero.

Bumblebee

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Transformers are robots in disguise, and this cosplayer has hidden themselves well inside this Bumblebee costume. If you look closely at the components of the costume, you can see it’s made up of car parts.

Toy soldier

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
They are the perfect toy soldier, right down to the authentic footplate. We wonder if they had to hop around like a real toy soldier any time they wanted to walk anywhere.

Groot and Yandoo

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
When Guardians of the Galaxy came out in 2014, it gave many young comic book fans a new hero, Groot. The plant-based lifeform can only say “I am Groot,” but that’s all he needs to as we all love him. Yandoo begins as the villain, but we come to love him in the end.

Drag Queen Deadpool

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Deadpool is many people’s favorite comic book character, and Ryan Reynolds was basically born to play him in the movies. Thanks to his not so serious take on life, Deadpool isn’t afraid to mix things up, and this cosplayer had captured his spirit.

Summer Smith

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Rick and Morty has become one of the most popular animated comedies in the past few years so naturally, people want to appear as characters from it. This Summer Smith has no time for getting schwifty as she’s too busy being a phone-obsessed teenager to do whatever her genius grandad wants.

Mugatu

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Zoolander was an instant classic when it came out in 2001, and one of the standout performers was Will Ferrell as fashion guru, Mugatu. This guy has gone such a good of transforming themselves we can’t tell if it is Will Ferrell and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it was.

Mad Hatter

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
“We’re all mad here.” Well maybe not, but this costume is amazing. Not only has this person transformed themselves into the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, but their mobility vehicle has changed too. They’ve got a portable tea party and even the elusive white rabbit.

Predator and Xenomorph

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
This pair seems a bit too civil for two opposing alien species that have battled it out against each other across the galaxies for thousands of years. Perhaps this was the calm before the storm, and before anyone knew it, there was xenomorph acid blood being sprayed everywhere while the predator wreaked havoc. All that’s missing is Sigourney Weaver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and we’ve got ourselves a battle royal on our hands.

Negan

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Any fans of the Walking Dead will surely recognize this villain. Negan breathed fresh life into the zombie-filled Walking Dead series when he and Lucille came along. Suddenly characters were no longer safe, and people we thought were invincible were getting their heads bashed in.

The Mask

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Jim Carrey as The Mask, but this cosplayer has basically claimed the title. Instead of donning the big yellow suit like many others would have done, they took this brief moment from the film and ran with it.

Iron Dog

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
They say dogs are a man’s best friend and if Iron Man decides he needs to get a dog, he’ll need to kit him out in a good suit. This dog must have made a lot of new friends when he dressed as ‘Tony Bark’ to the comic book convention.

Bob Ross

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Bob Ross’ gentle voice and calm brush strokes have taught thousands of people how to make art. Ross is a cherished TV personality all over the world because he’s so nice. This cosplayer is bringing Ross’ casual approach to painting to life and has set up his easel for a fresh new landscape.

The Joker

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Heath Ledger’s version of The Joker will go down in history as one of the best portrayals of Batman’s arch-nemesis ever. This cosplayer has perfectly recreated the moment he blew up a hospital while dressed as a nurse.

Buzz Lightyear

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Who wouldn’t want to be Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story? He’s confident, goes on space adventures, can fly, and has a cool laser pointer attachment. We can only assume that this cosplayer has been to infinity and beyond as they have nailed the costume.

Stan Lee

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Why go as a favorite comic book hero or villain when you can go as the guy who created the majority of them? This young kid only had one hero, and it was the man who let him escape the harsh realities of this world into one of his comic books.

Jesse Pinkman

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Aaron Paul won many fans thanks to his portrayal of Jesse in the drama Breaking Bad. We didn’t know whether to root for him or not as he continued making illegal narcotics with Walter White.

Widowmaker

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Overwatch became one of the most popular video games of the past decade when it was released in 2016. Widowmaker is one of the most popular characters from that game. If anyone was playing the game at the convention, they might have thought they somehow still had their VR headset on when they spotted her.

Zoya the Destroya

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Netflix’s GLOW gave us all a little taste of the ‘80s and a large amount of women’s wrestling. Zoya the Destroya is the ring name of Alison Brie’s character. She is super confident and thanks to the looming threat of the Cold War, is very much the ultimate villain of the show.

Albus Dumbledore

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
This man had always known he was meant to be a wizard in life, that’s why he grew his beard so long. Then the Harry Potter universe came along, and he could live out his fantasy as the charming Professor Dumbledore. We hope there wasn’t a professor Snape throwing Avada Kedavra curses around like they were going out of fashion.

Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
“Up and at them!” says Radioactive Man, but Fallout Boy (Girl) is already on the case. This pair have perfectly captured the spirit of The Simpsons comic heroes Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy. These two are ready to spring into action, so maybe there’s an unfortunate someone in peril nearby.

The Joker

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
A lot of people like cosplaying as The Joker. It’s understandable, he is pretty much the villain that has the most fun and thanks to various different incarnations, there are many outfit choices. This person has come as Jared Leto’s hipster Joker and has got the neon green hair perfect, along with the purple leather jacket.

Okoye

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Black Panther was a breakout hit in 2018 and caused so much stir it has received multiple Academy Award nominations. This person dressed as Okoye has done amazingly well to transform themselves into the fearless warrior.

Aloy

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Aloy is the nomadic lead character in the video game Horizon Zero Dawn. She roams around what looks like a prehistoric world with one subtle difference, instead of the dinosaurs being flesh and bone, they are robots.

Ruby Rhod

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
The Fifth Element felt like it was ahead of its time when it came out in 1997. The visuals were unlike anything else and it quickly became a global sensation. Many have become familiar with Chris Tucker’s role as Ruby Rhod in the movie and it’s a super costume idea. This guy has got the look perfect, but we need to know is if his voice is as high-pitched and electrified as Tucker’s.

Granny

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
We’re pretty sure that Granny from Looney Tunes is meant to be trying to protect Tweety from Sylvester, but here they are. This lady is proof that cosplay is for everyone, no matter their age and there are a ton of young children who love taking part too.

Black Knight

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
“Tis but a scratch… Nothing but a flesh wound.” If you’ve seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail this quote will be very familiar. He guards a passage through the forest but refuses to accept defeat when losing a limb. Instead, he vows to fight on until all of his limbs are cut off.

Turbo Man

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
It’s not often that a Christmas movie has people coming to comic conventions as characters from it, but this is Turbo Man from Jingle All the Way. The elusive action figure that Arnold Schwarzenegger spent the entire movie trying to get his hands on has been brought to life by this fan.

Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
It’s hard to imagine these two Charlie and the Chocolate characters are high on people’s favorites, but this pair looks an awful lot like them. They are like the grown up versions of Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregarde who seem to have never really recovered from their time in the factory.

Goku And Vegeta

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Are Goku and Vegeta friends? Who can really tell, but we do know these two Dragonball Z heroes drive each other on to become better warriors. They might have run into some trouble on their way to this convention, but they never back down from a fight. It might have taken them a whole episode to power up, but they won the fight and made it to the convention just in time.

Dr. Arliss Loveless

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
Some movie and comic book characters require more than a makeover, and they come with props. This guy had to make his own steampunk wheelchair like the one Dr. Arliss Loveless used in Wild Wild West. He’s shaved his beard to look like the character from the film and found plenty of vintage clothing to complete the look.

Black Widow

ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE BELOW
We’re not saying Marvel should replace Scarlett Johansson with a dog as Black Widow, but they should definitely consider it. If this dog played Black Widow, we reckon there would be so much less violence in the Marvel films.
