According to a recent report from Internations, a global community for individuals living and working abroad, expats residing in Mexico are among the most content in the world.
The country ranks as the top destination for expats, with 90% of individuals reporting happiness with their lives abroad, compared to the global average of 72%.
The “Expat Insider” report assesses 53 destinations based on several indices, including quality of life, ease of settling in, working abroad, personal finance, and an “expat essentials” index, which encompasses housing, administration, language, and digital life.
According to the report, Mexico ranks highly in ease of settling in and the friendliness of locals, making it simple for expats to build their own communities. While it may score lower in political stability, expats enjoy the country’s leisure options and affordable living, including housing.
Spain ranks second on the list, with 87% of expats in the country reporting happiness with their lives abroad thanks to a robust leisure scene and good work-life balance. Panama rounds out the top three, with expats reporting ease in making friends, secure personal finances and an overall happiness rate of 81%.
On the other hand, expats in Kuwait, Norway, Turkey, South Korea, and Germany rank at the bottom. According to the report, those who live in Kuwait, Norway, and South Korea find it challenging to settle in and make new friends, while those in Turkey and South Korea are unhappy with the demanding work culture.
