With vaccinations on the rise and COVID cases dropping across the country, the AAA is predicting a bumper July 4th travel period.
According to a report from AAA, the company says this year’s July 4th travel is expected to reach pre-pandemic levels as nearly 48 million Americans plan to travel for the holiday weekend.
AAA reports more than 47.7 million are expected to fly or drive to a holiday destination for July 4th, despite rising gas prices. If AAA’s prediction is correct it would make it the second-highest Independence Day travel volume on record.
“Travel is in full swing this summer, as Americans eagerly pursue travel opportunities they’ve deferred for the last year-and-a-half,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president, AAA Travel. “We saw strong demand for travel around Memorial Day and the kick-off of summer, and all indications now point to a busy Independence Day to follow.”
According to AAA, approximately 43.6 million Americans are expected to drive to their July 4th destination and an anticipated 3.5 million will fly for the holiday weekend.
AAA reports these are the top ten destinations for flights and tour bookings for the period of July 1 – 5:
1. Orlando, Florida
2. Anaheim, California
3. Denver, Colorado
4. Las Vegas, Nevada
5. Seattle, Washington
6. Chicago, Illinois
7. New York, NY
8. Atlanta, Georgia
9. Boston, Massachusetts
10. Kahului, Maui, Hawaii
