Amtrak Canceling Long-Distance Trains Amid Railroad Strike

Amtrak has been forced to cancel all long-distance trains due to the possible freight railroad strike.

According to CNN, negotiations are ongoing between unions and railroad companies, but if an agreement isn’t made, the first national rail strike in 30 years could start on Friday.
In anticipation of this, Amtrak service has been adjusted on tracks that could be affected by the dispute. All long-distance Amtrak trains are canceled as of Thursday, September 15.

“Amtrak operates almost all of our 21,000 route miles outside the Northeast Corridor (NEC) on track owned, maintained, and dispatched by freight railroads,” said Marc Magliari, an Amtrak spokesman told CNN.

According to CNN, the following routes are affected:

Southwest Chief
Empire Builder
California Zephyr
Train #421 portion of the Texas Eagle
City of New Orleans
Coast Starlight
Crescent
Lake Shore Limited
Silver Star
Sunset Limited
Texas Eagle
Auto Train
Capitol Limited
Cardinal
Palmetto (south of Washington)
