British Airways Makes Three ‘Flights to Nowhere’ in One Day

British Airways passengers had their travel plans disrupted after three separate flights were forced to make U-turns due to technical issues.
The ‘flights to nowhere’ inconvenienced travelers and could cost the airline more than $800,000 in passenger compensation.
According to Insider, more than 700 passengers had their flights disrupted.
The first flight – a long-haul flight from London’s Heathrow Airport to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was forced to return to Heathrow less than 2 hours into the 6-hour journey. Passengers were forced to stay overnight in London until they could board a replacement flight the next day.
The second plane, a flight from Heathrow to Corsica, spent 3 hours in the air as it u-turned back to the airport. Once again, passengers had to wait until the next day to reach their destination.
The third plane, a flight from Heathrow to Boston, was also forced to make a U-turn back to the airport.
“We are extremely sorry for the delay to our customers’ journeys,” a spokesperson for British Airways told the Independent. “We would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so.”
