Carnival Cruise Line to Ban ‘Offensive’ Clothing

If you’re planning on wearing your favorite profanity-emblazoned t-shirt on your next Carnival cruise, think again!

The cruise line announced they will be banning offensive clothing with a new policy forbidding attire that could upset or offend other passengers.

Carnival’s dress code section of their website now reminds passengers that, “All guests are expected to ensure their clothing and accessories are respectful to fellow guests. Specifically, items worn during the cruise should not contain any message that may be considered offensive or contain nudity, profanity, sexual innuendo/suggestions. In addition, clothing/accessories should not promote negative ethnic or racial, commentary, or hatred or violence in any form.”

According to CNN, the change came about in December after some customers reported passengers on their cruise wearing clothing with “very threatening messages.”

CNN reports each outfit will be taken on a case-by-case basis.

“[Our staff members] will look out for guests wearing clothes with inappropriate images or language and ask them to change as needed,” Carnival spokesperson Vance Gulliksen told CNN.
