Guadalajara Honored as 2022’s World Book Capital

Over the past twenty years, UNESCO’s World Book Capital program has chosen a World Book Capital to honor the role of books in that particular region’s culture.

According to Fodor’s, every year, the World Book Capital is chosen to encourage the culture of reading – and even though there is no monetary prize with the title, the World Book Capital receives a lot of recognition.
Fodor’s reports that this year’s World Book Capital is Guadalajara, and the city will host the month-long Fiestas de Octubre throughout October. November will see Guadalajara host the largest book fair in the Americas from November 26 through December 4.

According to Fodor’s, Guadalajara was selected “for its comprehensive plan for policies around the book to trigger social change, combat violence, and build a culture of peace.”
