US travelers can now head to Portugal on vacation with the country opening its doors to American tourists who can show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

According to Lonely Planet, tourists to Portugal must submit a negative PCR result from a COVID test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel, or a rapid antigen test performed within 24 hours prior to boarding. Children two and under are exempt from the test requirements.
For right now, fully vaccinated US tourists to Portugal still need to provide proof of a negative COVID test, however, there may be a possibility those testing requirements could be lifted in the future. According to Lonely Planet, the testing rules for vaccinated travelers will be reviewed on June 27.

According to Reuters, approximately 1.2 million US tourists visited Portugal in 2019. That number plummeted to just over 135,000 in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
