Tourism Australia has a brand new travel ambassador – actress Rose Byrne!
Despite pulling off a killer American accent in the comedy Bridesmaids, Byrne is actually from Sydney, Australia. Byrne is so proud of her home country that she partnered with Tourism Australia in a new campaign titled Come and Say G’Day to encourage visitors to come and check out everything Australia has to offer.
Condé Nast Traveler sat down with the Troy star to find out what she loves about Australia, the most incredible place she has ever visited there, and her cure for jetlag.
“I went to Uluru for this campaign, and it was absolutely breathtaking,” Byrne revealed. “I can’t recommend it enough. It’s truly a sacred spiritual experience. My dad and I just love the rock. It’s very clear why it is such a sacred place and why it’s so important in indigenous culture. The colors, and as the day goes on, the sunsets and the shifting shapes in the rock—it’s really quite breathtaking. And it’s the middle of nowhere. It’s just like, the closest you can feel to being on Mars or something. It’s really extraordinary. I want to go back and take my family.”
“I love the beach and the best cure for jet lag is to hit the ocean,” Byrne told Condé Nast Traveler. “The north end of Bondi Beach is a beautiful spot for a swim. The southern end of Bronte I love. The Maroubra baths are also a really refreshing seaside swim. That’s always a great spot to hit.”
As Tourism Australia’s newest ambassador, Byrne is also starring in a new animated film where she’s the voice of Ruby, a souvenir kangaroo who discovers Australia’s famous landmarks.
“After an extremely difficult time for tourism around the world, our uplifting and joyful campaign will stand out in what is a highly competitive international tourism market,” said Philipa Harrison, Director of Tourism Australia, in a press release.
