When it comes to airports most of us want to spend as little time as possible lounging around the terminal thanks to limited dining options, uncomfortable seats and lack of things to do.
However, there is one airport in the world where travelers hope to have their flight delayed. In fact, Singapore’s Changi Airport has become a destination in itself.
Routinely named the best airport in the world, Changi Airport recently completed its new ‘Jewel’ section – a 1.46 million square foot multi-use complex linking three of the airport’s four terminals.
Costing over $1.25 billion to construct, the ten story building was designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie and is built around the world’s tallest indoor waterfall – a 130-foot rain vortex that cascades through the middle of the building.
Complete with free WiFi, the Jewel is a travelers dream come true with over 280 food and retail outlets all surrounded by lush tropical foliage, green spaces, and a four-story garden filled with walking trails that are sure to calm the nerves of many a stressed flyer.
For the movie-buff on a long layover, the Jewel is even home to an 11-cinema IMAX theater and a 130 cabin YOTELAIR airport hotel for those who need to stay the night, or want to sleep away their jetlag in privacy.
The top floor of the Jewel contains an astounding 14,000 square meter canopy park, home to several restaurants and themed gardens with mazes, Discovery Slides and a 50-meter canopy bridge set to open sometime this summer.
Best of all you don’t need to be catching a flight to experience everything Jewel has to offer. With all of its vast amenities and gorgeous park areas, Jewel Changi Singapore Airport has become a destination for travelers looking to indulge in some world-class shopping and delicious food.
