With many countries – and Hawaii – not accepting rapid antigen test results, U.S. airports are gearing up to help travelers gain entry to those destinations by offering rapid PCR testing sites.

According to Travel Weekly, by May 1st more than one dozen U.S. airports will offer rapid Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 testing sites, bypassing the traditional 24 to 72 hours it normally takes to receive PCR results.

The PCR test is a molecular test that is more accurate than the rapid antigen tests.

Rapid PCR testing sites (via various companies and for varying prices) are currently available at LAX, Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, MI, New York’s JFK, and Houston Bush Airports. Additional airports, including Boston, Newark, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington Dulles, and Washington Reagan will offer rapid PCR testing by May 1. Result times vary from just 30 minutes to less than one hour depending on the company offering the test.
