If you’re planning on booking an Airbnb, or other short-term rentals in a residential neighborhood for your stay in Honolulu, be prepared to stay for at least 90 days.

Honolulu’s mayor Rick Blangiardi has signed a bill requiring a 90-day minimum stay for travelers booking short-term rentals outside the resort areas of Oahu.

The bill raises the minimum short-term rental stay from 30 days to a minimum of 90 days. The law will go into effect on October 23, 2022.

“This bill is about getting our neighborhoods back, protecting local communities and preserving our natural resources for decades to come,” Mayor Blangiardi said in a Twitter post.

Short-term rentals under 90 days will still be permitted in resort areas, including Turtle Bay and Waikiki.
