The Illinois State Museum has a message for all the Gen Xers out there – we haven’t “forgotten” you – and they need your help in curating a museum celebrating everything that was wonderful about growing up in the ‘70s, ‘80s’ and ‘90s!

According to WQAD8ABC, the museum is planning to honor what they call the “forgotten” generation with a special “Growing Up X” exhibition scheduled to open in October at the Springfield Museum.
The curator of the exhibition is asking those born between 1965 and 1980 to fill out an online survey about their experiences growing up in that era and possibly loan some of their Gen X goodies to the museum.

From scrunchies to Cabbage Patch Kids and Walkmans to mix tapes, the exhibition will pay homage to everything that made being a Gen X extra special.

“We think it’s time Gen X got some love,” Illinois State Museum Curator of History Erika Holst said in a statement reported by USA Today. “We want to dig into the experience of being a child in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. How did growing up adapting to new technology, often unsupervised, in the shadow of the Cold War, Reaganomics, Just Say No and the AIDS crisis shape this generation of people who are now coming into their own in middle age?”
