Airbnb announced they will offer free, or subsidized housing for 100,000 relief works worldwide who are busy fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to RelaxNews, Airbnb, in cooperation with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, the International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, and other non profits, shared they would subsidize the stays for health professionals and other emergency responders to allow them to stay closer to their work locations.
“We started with pilots in Italy and France, and nearly 6,000 heroic hosts have already signed up,” Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky shared via Twitter. “Today we are expanding accommodations for COVID-19 responders globally.”
“12,000 hosts have now opened up their homes to COVID-19 responders,” Chesky revealed just hours after announcing the new initiative.

“Medical workers and first responders are providing lifesaving support during the coronavirus outbreak and we want to help,” says Airbnb’s Co-founder Joe Gebbia. “We’ve heard from countless hosts around the world who want to provide a comforting home to heroic first responders. We are connecting our nonprofit partners, government agencies and others with our incredible host community to work together in these extraordinary times.”
