International Airlines Group Shareholders Approve Purchase of 50 Boeing 737 MAX Jets

International Airlines Group shareholders on Wednesday approved the purchase of 50 Boeing 737 MAX jets, with an option for another 100.
The aircraft are set to be delivered between 2023 and 2028, and will replace Airbus A320ceo aircraft, the company said. IAG owns British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and other airlines.
The company in May said the order would include 25 Boeing 737-8-200s and 25 Boeing 737-10s, which can be used for fleet replacement by any airline in the group.
The aircraft “are more fuel efficient than those they will replace and in line with our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050,” IAG CEO Luis Gallego said.
Boeing still faces a December deadline for U.S. Federal Aviation Administration certification of the 737-10 variant of the MAX.
