After being closed for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, Japan is getting ready to welcome back tourists from 98 countries – including the United States!
According to the Washington Post, beginning June 10th, Japan will allow a wide range of leisure tourists on guided package tours that include transportation and accommodation from countries with low COVID-19 infection rates.
Visitors from the low-risk countries who have received three vaccine doses will not need to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival or quarantine after arrival. They will, however, need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure to Japan.
“Step by step we will aim to accept [tourists] as we did in normal times, taking into consideration the status of infections,” Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a statement reported by the
Washington Post.
According to USA Today, it will take some time before foreign visitors can come to Japan for individual tourism.
