Ohio is embracing its rich aviation history by looking to the future – Jetsons style!
The state just announced plans to build hundreds of flying taxis at a manufacturing site near Dayton International Airport. Joby Aviation Inc. has been selected to build the electric air taxis, which will carry a pilot and four passengers. According to ABC News, the flying vehicles can reach speeds of up to 200 mph over a range of 100 miles.
“Ohio’s legacy in aviation leadership begins with the Wright Brothers and continues now with Joby Aviation, as they launch a new era in advanced aviation manufacturing and aerial mobility in Dayton,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said during a press release.
USA Today reports Joby plans to invest least $477.5 million and manufacture up to 500 vehicles a year. The project, slated to start manufacturing in 2025, will bring 2,000 jobs to the area.
