U.S. Airports to Stop Screening International Arrivals for COVID

Effective Monday, September 14, international passengers arriving at U.S airports will no longer be screened for the coronavirus.

According to Yahoo News, the CDC says they are ending the screenings of international arrivals due to their “limited effectiveness.”

“We now have a better understanding of COVID-19 transmission that indicates symptom-based screening has limited effectiveness because people with COVID-19 may have no symptoms or fever at the time of screening, or only mild symptoms,” said the agency in a statement posted on the CDC website, reported by Yahoo News. “Therefore, CDC is shifting its strategy and prioritizing other public health measures to reduce the risk of travel-related disease transmission.”

Up until now, passengers arriving on international flights underwent COVID screenings at 15 select airports, including Atlanta, LAX, New York’s JFK, and Miami International, which included temperature checks and filling out a health questionnaire.
