The US borders with Canada and Mexico will remain closed to nonessential travel through at least October due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to Travel+Leisure, the shared land borders have been closed since March 18, with Americans traveling to Alaska allowed to travel through Canada provided they display a “hang-tag” during their trip and pass through certain designated border crossings.

“We continue to work with our Canadian and Mexican partners to slow the spread of #COVID19,” Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said, shared via Twitter. “Accordingly, we have agreed to extend the limitation of non-essential travel at our shared land ports of entry through October 21.”
