After hitting an iceberg, a 2,000-passenger cruise ship has been forced to cancel its nine-night Alaskan cruise.

The Norwegian Sun ship was en route towards an Alaskan glacier when it smashed into a medium-sized iceberg – known as a growler – in dense fog.
Following the crash, the Norwegian Sun was forced to dock in Juneau, Alaska, to allow engineers to survey any damage to the vessel.

“On June 25, 2022, while transiting to Hubbard Glacier in Alaska, Norwegian Sun was engulfed by dense fog, limited visibility and the ship making contact with a growler,” a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Lines told the press.

“The ship was given clearance by the United States Coast Guard and other local maritime authorities to return to Seattle at a reduced speed,” the Norwegian Cruise Lines spokesperson confirmed.

Passengers on board the Norwegian Sun have been transferred back to Seattle and will be refunded the trip cost.
