Delta and Alaska Airlines To End Partnership Amid Virgin Merger

Don’t expect to be able to use your Delta points on Alaska Airlines this spring and vice versa.

The two carriers announced they will be ending their partnership in May 2017 after the news of Alaska Airlines merger with Virgin America.

This means no frequent fliers points between the two and no more code-sharing – the ability to sell seats on some of each other’s flights.

In its acquisition of Virgin America, Alaska Air is now one of the most dominant carriers on the west coast.

In a statement, Delta said of the split, “The decision is a positive milestone for both airlines as Alaska focuses on its merger integration with Virgin America and Delta focuses on creating more customer choice at its Seattle Tacoma International Airport hub.”
