After two years of our travel plans being thwarted thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, travel giant Expedia predicts tourists will be looking to go big when picking destinations for 2022.
Expedia reveals it is all part of the GOAT mindset – meaning travelers are booking the Greatest Of All Trips! In fact, Expedia’s research shows 68 percent of Americans will “go big” in 2022 and choose bucket list destinations such as Rome, Bali, London and Paris.
Expedia polled 12,000 travelers across 12 countries and found that US travelers are embracing the GOAT mindset by choosing vacations that will provide exhilaration and excitement. They are also more willing to splurge on that dream vacation and spend more than they normally would.
“Travel is no longer just about ‘going somewhere.’ Coming out of such a long period of constraints and limitations, 2022 will be the year we wring every bit of richness and meaning out of our experiences,” Christie Hudson, Senior PR Manager for Expedia, said in a press release. “Whether it’s going somewhere new, being more spontaneous or treating yourself, it’s clear that a new wave of excitement is bubbling as travelers chase travel greatness to get their GOAT.”
According to Expedia, these are the top-searched spots on US travelers’ lists:
Domestic: Orlando, Destin, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Panama City, Maui.
International: Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen/Tulum, Rome, Bali, London, Paris.
