Florida Bill Aims to Ban Driving in the Left-Hand Lane Continuously

A new bill recently filed in the Florida Senate is looking to tackle the issue of drivers continuously traveling in the left-hand lane.

The bill was filed by Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka (R-Fort Myers) and, if passed, will prohibit vehicles from continuously driving in the furthermost left-hand lane without intent to pass.

“A driver may not continuously operate a motor vehicle in the furthermost left-hand lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle, when preparing to exit the road, street, or highway, or when otherwise directed by an official traffic control device,” the bill states.

The bill would not apply to emergency vehicles, highway maintenance crews, or during construction operations.

If passed, the bill would take effect on January 1, 2024.
