A new quarterly report released by London-based firm Henley & Partners has ranked the world’s most powerful passports for July 2022 – and this year’s top rankings go to three different Asian countries.
CNN reports the Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports according to the number of destinations their holders can visit without a prior visa.
According to CNN, Japan took first place for the world’s most powerful passport for 2022, giving its citizens visa-free or visa-on-demand travel to a record 193 destinations around the globe. Singapore and South Korea came in joint second place, with their citizens having access to 192 destinations.
The top ten most powerful passports for July 2022, according to Henley & Partners, are:
1. Japan (193 destinations)
2. Singapore and South Korea (192 destinations)
3. Germany, Spain (190 destinations)
4. Finland, Italy, Luxembourg (189 destinations)
5. Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden (188 destinations)
6. France, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom (187 destinations)
7. Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United States (186 destinations)
8. Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Malta (185 destinations)
9. Hungary (183 destinations)
10. Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia (182 destinations)
The worst passports, according to Henley & Partners, for July 2022, are:
105. North Korea (40 destinations)
106. Nepal, Palestinian territory (38 destinations)
107. Somalia (35 destinations)
108. Yemen (34 destinations)
109. Pakistan (32 destinations)
