Hitting the open road for an RV vacation this summer? Thanks to the pandemic, RV travel is enjoying yet another bumper summer, but if you’re new to the world of RV vacations there are a few important tips you may want to do before you pack up your hotel room on wheels.
According to the Courier Journal, State Farm Insurance Agent, Rebecca Stutts Hovater suggests ticking off the following checklist:
Get Insured – the first step is making sure your RV or camper is insured.
Plan! Plan! Plan! – before hitting the open road, Stutts Hovater says that although flexibility is important for RV travel, it’s also a good idea to have a plan in place regarding your itinerary, locating and booking campsites, and deciding what amenities are important for your family. With RV travel popular once again this summer, many campsites are already booked up, so make sure you have reservations in place.
It’s also a good idea to have your route pre-planned, including checking upcoming weather forecasts, the time it will take to drive to campsites, and various stops you want to make along the way.
Pack Necessities – Stutts Hovater told the Courier Journal pre-packing necessities is a good idea. Things such as dishes, cookware, non-perishable foods, RV-friendly toilet paper, flashlights, batteries, cleaning supplies, a first aid kit, hygiene products, towels, and linens should all be purchased and packed prior to leaving.
There’s nothing worse than breaking down on the side of the highway, so Stutts-Hovater recommends making sure your RV has been Well-Maintained before embarking on any adventures. This includes checking the tire pressure, checking battery fluid levels, having the brakes inspected, cleaning the AC filters, checking window, door and roof seals, and checking engine and generator oil.
