Carnival Cruise Lines is taking rowdy behavior seriously and will begin dolling out fines of up to $500 for guests who can’t keep their behavior in check.
According to CBS News, rowdy guests could be hit with a $500 fine and have to cover any costs they cause if they have to be detained or taken off the ship ahead of time.
“Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and any guest whose conduct affects the comfort, enjoyment, safety or well-being of other guests or crew will be detained onboard and/or disembarked at their own expense and will [be] banned from sailing on Carnival in the future,” an update to Carnival’s ticket contract reads.
The move comes amidst an uptick in brawlish behavior onboard several Carnival ships.
According to CBS News, a video emerged on social media of a brawl involving around 30 different passengers onboard the Carnival Sunrise in September, and back in June, the Coast Guard had to escort the Carnival Magic back to port in June after a fight erupted in the ship’s nightclub.
“Cruise ships, like virtually all parts of travel and tourism — including airlines, amusement parks, sporting events and camping facilities — are experiencing an increase in more agitated behavior by a small number of guests,” a spokesperson for the Miami-based company told CBS. “Our commitment to the health, safety and security of all of our guests and team members is being demonstrated through the implementation of various measures to assure that our ships remain a welcoming, family-friendly place.”
